Rules

BASIC COMPETITION RULES

With the emergence of digital imaging as the largest part of the club's activities, the rules governing competitions have become increasingly complex.

A summary of the main points is provided below, but you can download a full copy of the latest rules (including guidelines for labelling) from here.

NEW! At the foot of the page you will find updated guidance on submitting digital entries.

  • All work to have been taken on or after 1st January of the year preceding the year of the start of the season.
  • All entries to be with the competition secretary at least 14 days prior to the competition evening.
  • In all competitions, the judge's decisions on eligibility and ranking are final.

For Monthly Competitions

  • No limitation on subject matter (but see note on computer manipulation)
  • Maximum of 5 prints and 5 digital images per member, per competition. Members may enter both competitions.
  • Competitions will have one category for prints but two categories for digital images: "A" for previous winners and "B" for others. Notes on how the groups operate can be downloaded from here.
  • In any one competition an image, or a derivative thereof, may only be used once, as either a print or projected image.
  • Prints or digital images having won first place may not be entered again in a monthly competition.
  • All digital images submitted are likely to be placed on the website; if you would not like this done for some or all of your images, please let the Competitions Secretary know.

For Annual Competitions

  • Annual competitions will have only one category which will be open to all members.
  • Ideally, mount sizes should be 50 x 40 cm but mounts up to a maximum area of 2580 sq cm (400 sq ins) having no side exceeding 76 cm (30 ins) will be accepted. Smaller mounts and unmounted prints (up to the stated limits) will also be accepted.
  • For the Five of a Kind competition 5 prints, no larger than 6" x 4", on a single theme chosen by the entrant are to be mounted on a card no larger than 500mm x 400mm.
  • Digital Images must be JPEG, with an sRGB colour space, with a maximum width of 1400 pixels and a maximum height of 1050 pixels. Star or other ratings included in the files should be deleted.

All elements in an image must be the work of the author and all manipulation must have been performed by the author. Inclusion of ready made images from other sources is not permitted, whether as clip art, ready made borders, backgrounds, patterns or graphics. Conversion to monochrome is permitted. Specific exceptions may be given top some Annual Competitions - see the competition description for details.

Submiiting Digital Entries

  1. Entries should be e-mailed to: competitions@tetburycameraclub.org.uk
  2. The subject or title of the e-mail should be "Entry" - without the quotation marks, no additional words or symbols should be added.
  3. The e-mail text should state the number of images attached, and state the competition entered.
  4. Entries should be received by the Competitions Secretary by 23.59 on the hand-in date specified in the Club programme.
  5. A separate e-mail should be used for each competition, and all of the images for that competition should be attached to that e-mail.(e.g. two competitions on one night requires two e-mails)

Further guidance:

Every endeavour will be made to acknowledge receipt of entries to confirm safe arrival.

To guard against errors, omissions and misunderstandings members may send their entries a few days prior to the deadline which, depending upon the Competition Secretary's diary, would give time for them to be returned or queried and then re-submitted, should there be any difficulties. This would also guard against lost e-mail messages.

Please do not use competitions@tetburycameraclub.org.uk for correspondence.
